My name is Michelle, with my husband Mike we own Smart Scale Tiny Homes! It’s the new sister company to our seasoned construction company, Sunrise Construction, and our team is dedicated SOLELY to building sustainable ADU’s and tiny homes!
What we are most excited about is our unique building envelope product: a pre-fabricated, structurally insulated panel (SIP) by the innovative Canadian company, ZS2 Technologies. It is sustainable, carbon negative (it actually absorbs CO2 from the surrounding atmosphere), energy efficient, durable (mould resistant, fire resistant, water resistant), and as the panels are prefabricated it has a significantly quicker installation time (only 2-3 days to install the complete building envelope!)
We offer 3 convenient layouts to choose from: studio, 1 and 2 bedroom. Along with designer curated finish options, we make the project planning process significantly faster and smoother. We’re super excited to be part of the ADU community, and look forward to connecting on your next project!

The Sapphire is a one bedroom, 480 square foot ADU that measures 40′ by 12′. The units come equipped with custom cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, stackable washer/dryer, mini splits for AC and heat, LVP flooring, and choice of Chamclad siding on the exterior. Our units are move-in ready upon delivery.
True North Tiny Homes – Hamilton, ON
We have over five years’ experience building ADUs within Ontario. That’s right: before the zoning by-laws were even in place! We have the experience to get around some of the grey areas if your property doesn’t quite check off all the boxes and may need a variance. We have more than 20 years of Hamilton design and construction experience.
Our first projects were more rural, getting permitted as temporary garden suites (20 year permits), or even as attached ADU additions. Over the years we have moved more urban, with two ADUs built within Hamilton in 2023. We build both modular as well as on-site. While our preference is modular, some sites don’t allow for this, so we can site build within Hamilton and Haldimand County. Whether modular or site build, we can complete construction in under 10 weeks. We are now specializing in ADUs, both design only as well as design / build, and are open to build only discussions. We look forward to continuing to build Hamilton one backyard at a time!
